NA head to step down after vote

HÀ NỘI (VNS) — The National Assembly (NA) agreed to let Nguyễn Sinh Hùng step down from his positions as chairman of the NA and the National Election Council (NEC) during a plenary session yesterday.

Among  四 七 三 votes,  四 三 一 agreed to relieve him from his duty as NA chairman, while  四 三0 approved of his stepping down from the post of NEC leader. The legislature then adopted a resolution releasing him from the posts with  四 五 四 votes of approval ( 九 二. 一 一 per cent of NA deputies).

Later, NA Vice Chairwoman Tòng Thị Phóng delivered a proposal on the nomination of candidates for the position of NA head.

The Politburo and Party Central Co妹妹ittee have nominated NA Vice Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân to the post. The voting will be held today.

If elected, Ngân will become the first female leader in the history of the Vietnamese legislature. The legislative body is also scheduled to take procedures to relieve the President of his post today. 

On Saturday morning, the NA will elect a new president, who will be sworn in the same day.

The newly elected president is due to submit a proposal to the NA to release the prime minister of his duty on the morning of April  六. Procedures for the release will take place in the afternoon the same day.

The NA will elect a new PM on the morning of April  七. All the releases and elections of these leading positions are conducted in the form of a secret ballot.

Earlier in the morning, NA deputies discussed the revised law on signing, joining and implementing international treaties.

Their discussion focused on principles related to signing and implementing international treaties, supervision of the signing and implementation of treaties, the adoption of treaties, and the decision whether or not to join treaties. — VNS
